Stuck in the World’s Longest Yard Sale

July 12, 2010 Roberta Estes

This has to qualify as the most miserable day I’ve ever spent in Virginia.  Traveling from South Boston to I-75 in Hillville on Labor Day weekend, I encountered the World’s Longest Yard Sale that involved the entire length of Highway 58.  All was well until I actually arrived in Hillville, which has only 1 main street, Highway 58, and there is only one way to access the expressway – and that’s through the center of town – on that one main street.  Well, I think Hillville had a parade that day…..and I was stuck in the World’s Longest Garage Sale traffic for 4 hours…..4 long hot miserable hours.  I was stuck in front of this guy for about an hour, and during that entire time no one even talked to him.  By the time I finally got to move, I wanted to take one of his free knives and see if it was sharp enough to cut off his nasty little scraggly ponytail hanging over his right shoulder…..but I digress.  In any event, what I was trying to take a picture of was the pink propane tank.  I can’t even look at this picture without being reminded NEVER to go to Virginia on Labor Day weekend again.
